The Ali-Copter has Landed

30 07 2010

We always knew that the volunteers powering Saqib’s candidacy were incredibly motivated, but today one of our best volunteers, Ryan Hoy (pictured below in the black shirt and brown shorts) seems to have taken it to a new level. He actually completely plastered the campaign vehicle with bumper stickers! How AMAZING!

Ryan cleverly named the vehicle the “Ali-Copter”. Hilarious. Keep your eyes pealed on the roads of District 39. Honk if you like the Ali-Copter!

Saqib Fights for Road Safety During Power Outages

29 07 2010

The Washington Post’s Dr. Gridlock recently mentioned an interesting and very important piece of legislation that Saqib has worked on in the House of Delegates.

Over each of the past three legislative sessions Saqib has introduced the Malfunctioning Traffic Light Act to mandate that non-working traffic lights be treated as four-way stops. In each of the last three legislative sessions insiders in Annapolis have dismissed this bill as an irrelevant proposal.

This recent storm and the resulting power outages have demonstrated that Maryland needs Saqib’s Malfunctioning Traffic Light Act.  Saqib will continue the fight to enact this law, and other laws that will prioritize regular Marylanders over Annapolis insiders, if you send him back to Annapolis.  Please click here to sign up to volunteer or here to make a small donation to the campaign.

Thank you,

Susan

All in a Day’s Work

28 07 2010

The last 24 hours have been jam-packed with campaign events.  We are extremely grateful that Congressmen Andre Carson and Keith Ellison volunteered to headline a fundraiser for the campaign last night.  The fundraiser was extremely well-attended, with committed individuals pitching in to help Saqib convey his positive vision for Maryland’s future.  We are proud that 81% of Saqib’s contributions come from individual supporters, and not special interests or corporations.

This afternoon our fantastic Ali volunteers followed up last night’s  fundraiser with a special training and door-to-door canvass.  These folks understand that this campaign is about organizing neighborhoods across District 39 at a grassroots level, and what a great job they are doing!

Testimonial Tuesday: Kay Guinane

I first became aware of Saqib Ali when he was running for State Delegate, and based his campaign on getting the opinions and ideas of the people of District 39.  Today he still has that commitment to listening to the voters and not just being a cog in the political machine.

Since his election to the House of Delegates in 2006 Saqib has worked closely with our community in Derwood on a number of issues, such as the construction of the ICC and protecting Maryland’s environment.  For Saqib, just stating his position on an issue is never enough. He is always sure to listen to community-members before taking action and was the only legislator who took the time hear our neighborhood’s concerns regarding the ICC.

We need state senators who are willing to look at the facts, listen to their constituents and act in our best interests, even if it means going up against big corporations or the political machine.  We can have such a senator from District 39 by electing Ali.

Ali Team Powers through Outage

26 07 2010

Even a massive Montgomery County-wide power outage could not stop the Ali for Senate volunteers from working their hardest to talk to every last District 39 voter.  When the Ali Team noticed our campaign office was powerless this morning, folks didn’t pack up and head home.

Instead our one-of-a-kind volunteers migrated down the street to a coffee shop (with power and internet) to get to work!

If you are interested in joining our highly-motivated campaign team then click here to sign-up!

We all thank the PEPCO workers who are working hard to bring power back to county residents and wish everyone without power a safe and speedy return to the grid.

I have had children in Montgomery County public schools for the past 18 years, since September 1992. I appreciate the excellent education that my children have received; however, I have also seen the impacts of budget constraints including large class sizes and cutbacks in music and arts education. All four of my children had high school classes that they wanted to take and that would have been beneficial for their applications to college, but that were not offered at their particular school.

I support Saqib because he wants to work to protect the budgets our public schools already receive and reinvigorate them with more resources. Saqib won’t let our tax dollars be diverted from our public schools to private, religious institutions. We simply cannot afford to be redirecting funds away from our needy public schools in these tough economic times.  Our state must demonstrate a sustained commitment to public education. Saqib Ali is the only candidate in this race who understands this. Please join me in supporting him.

Coming Together to Move Maryland Forward

19 07 2010

This weekend was another great success.  Tens of volunteers moved through our campaign office, and made it out into the community to knock on doors and talk to voters in the blistering heat!

On both Saturday and Sunday Saqib spoke at fundraisers, where dedicated groups of individuals helped to ensure that we will have the resources we need to remain competitive in the closing months of this campaign.  We are proud that 81% of Saqib’s funding comes from individuals, and not special interests.
